Adriana Colina

Mrs. Colina is a 29 year public servant who began her City of Tampa career in 1989 in a clerical position while furthering her education. She obtained her AA in Liberal Arts from Hillsborough Community College and, then her BA, with honors, in Human Resource Management from St. Leo University. In 2015, she joined the the City of Tampa’s Solid Waste and Environmental Program Management Department as their Chief of Administration. She is a licensed State of Florida Real Estate Sales Associate, Certified Manager of Integrated Solid Waste Management Systems and a gifted public speaker.

This proud 3rd generation Tampa native has an extensive human resource, communications, public relations and financial background. Colina oversees the Solid Waste Department’s $148 million budget, communications, public relations and outreach efforts, management of the City’s recycling and environmental programs, Audit & Contracts (over $25 million in contracts), Quality Control (billing, customer service and the City’s McKay Bay Scale house (disposal site)). During times of City emergencies, Colina’s leadership responsibilities transfer to the City’s Emergency Response Center (ERC)-2 as Co-Commander and portions of the Emergency Operations Center (EOC) communications unit.

She is the Creator, Host & Producer of ¿Qué Pasa Tampa?, the City of Tampa Television’s (CTTV) Spanish Language Television Show. The show and Colina have been featured twice on WTVT/Fox 13’s “What’s Right with Tampa Bay” – a huge honor. She has also been recognized by St. Pete Times columnist, Ernest Hooper and was also featured twice in the ‘Silhouettes’ column of La Gaceta.

Adri is a proud American and Tampeña of Sicilian, Spanish and Cuban descent; the ‘Tampa Trifecta.’ In 2018, Colina was named Tampa’s Hispanic Woman of the Year. This prestigious award is given as a lifetime achievement award by Tampa Hispanic Heritage Inc. The award reconizes individuals who have excelled in their endeavors to advance, promote, maintain, and enhance our Hispanic heritage and who, by their outstanding contributions, have improved the quality of life in the Hispanic community. The community is encouraged to nominate individuals who have a strong curriculum vitae and are well-known in their industry or community. Adri is a two-term Chairperson of the Mayor’s Hispanic Heritage Committee, which coordinates an annual celebration honoring Hispanic city of Tampa employees and, raises funds towards scholarship endowments at the University of South Florida and Hillsborough Community College for Latino students. Adri has volunteered her time to speak at local high schools motivating young Hispanic students and encouraging them to stay in school and excel. A gifted public speaker, she has served as the guest speaker for the U.S. State Attorney’s Office Annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration and was honored by the Latin American Fiesta Association as their 1st Woman of the Year in Community Service. In 2005, Adri became the youngest recipient of the City of Tampa’s – Josephine Howard Stafford ‘‘Woman of the Year” award. This prestigious award is given annually to a current or former City of Tampa female employee who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to her position and community. She was also inducted into the Leto High School and Villa Madonna Alumni, Hall of Fames, respectively.

She has served on many other boards and committees some of which include the Hillsborough County Board of County Commissions – Human Relations Board, American Heart Association Community Board, the Mayor’s Hispanic Heritage Committee, City of Tampa Women’s History Month Committee, Villa Madonna Alumni Association, Cuban Club/Krewe of Mambi, the Departmental March of Dimes, United Way, Walk for Diabetes and American Heart Walk Coordinator and HCC Ybor Campus Alumni Committee. She has also served as Team Captain for the Susan G. Komen ‘Race for the Cure’ –5K Run/Walk benefiting Breast Cancer patients and survivors. Mrs. Colina enjoys volunteering her time for causes that make a difference in her community and the lives of people. She has participated in events such as: Paint Your Heart Out, Clean City Day and, served for many years as the chairperson of the Cuban Club’s participation in Ybor City’s Fiesta Day event.

Most importantly, she is blessed and honored to be the wife of Carlos Colina; mother of two beautiful, talented and intelligent girls Jacquelyn and Marisa and daughter of Elsa and, the late, Jack Ciucio, Sr.
