Karen Marquardt
Assistant Chief Marquardt was appointed to Toledo Fire & Rescue Department in 1996 and spent most of her career at Station 16, which is located on Door and Junction.
Assistant Chief Marquardt was promoted to Lieutenant in 2007 and to Captain in 2009 and 2011, she was promoted to Battalion Chief. Chief Marquardt was promoted to Deputy/Assistant Chief on May 23, 2014.
Chief Marquardt helped negotiate 4 collective bargaining agreements, two with Toledo Firefighters Local 92, one with Toledo Fire Chiefs Association, and one with the City of Toledo. Chief Marquardt served for 9 years on the Toledo Firefighters Health & Welfare Board of Trustees, serving as chairperson for six of those years. During her career Chief Marquardt has also worked in the Bureau of Professional Standards, Fire Investigative Unit, Fire Prevention, Employee Assistance Program, and Training Bureau. Chief Marquardt has participated in the Ohio Fire Academy “Can You Take the Heat” program which assists women in learning about a career in firefighting. Chief Marquardt sits on Toledo Fire and Rescue “For Pete’s Sake” foundation, American Red Cross, National Diversity council (Toledo office), and BGSU State Fire School Advisory boards.
Prior to becoming a Toledo Firefighter, Assistant Chief Marquardt worked at the Toledo Hospital Alcohol and Drug treatment center as a licensed chemical dependency counselor, is a certified Fire Instructor for the State of Ohio, and holds a Bachelor of Science degree from the Ohio State University.
