Joan Duggan, MD
Joan Duggan is an Infectious Diseases physician at The University of Toledo Medical Center. She attended college at the University of Michigan, where she also received her training in Infectious Diseases. Her medical degree and residency training in Internal Medicine were at the Medical College of Ohio. She is the currently the Chief of Infectious Diseases at UTMC and the medical director and program director of the UTMC Ryan White Program, which provides medical care in the northwestern quadrant of the state to people living with HIV or AIDS. At UTMC, she is also in charge of a basic science lab which conducts research into a murine (mouse) retrovirus which shares many similarities to HIV. This animal model is unique and offers insight into the role of viral infections in lymphogenesis (which is the development of a type of cancer known as lymphoma). She has published multiple book chapters and peer-reviewed articles on a variety of Infectious Diseases topics and on her basic science research. She is married and has a daughter.
