Shireen Becker
Shireen Becker, a former federal prosecutor, represents businesses and individuals in government investigations and complex civil lawsuits. She frequently conducts internal investigations for boards of directors and senior management and defends clients before a range of government agencies, including the DOJ, HHS-OIG, EPA, DOD, and SEC. Shireen has handled a wide variety of white-collar criminal cases involving bribery of public officials, the FCPA, defense contractor fraud, false claims, and health care fraud. She also counsels clients on how to build, enhance, and maintain an effective corporate compliance program.
Prior to joining Jones Day in 2013, Shireen served as the Criminal Health Care Fraud Coordinator for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Southern District of California. During that time, she prosecuted health care fraud cases, violations of the Anti-Kickback Statute, criminal false claims, procurement fraud, and aggravated identity theft. Her success stories include uncovering a multimillion dollar fraud involving stolen medical equipment from Camp Pendleton, a mail and wire fraud investigation of a regional hospital CEO, prosecution of wide-ranging government contract fraud by a San Diego-based biotech firm, and obtaining one of the largest individual restitution awards for the Social Security trust fund. Shireen also has broad criminal trial experience and has successfully briefed and argued several cases before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
Shireen serves as co-chair of the Lawyer Representatives for the Southern District of California and is the 2016 President of the San Diego Chapter of the South Asian Bar Association. She is actively involved in the Federal Bar Association, Lawyer’s Club, and the Enright Inn of Court.
